Worksheet 6 is ready: Ecological Spirituality

The Maryknoll Affiliates Laudato Si’ Working Group is pleased to present the latest Laudato Si’ Action Plan Worksheet and its accompanying resources, posted by Maryknoll Office of Global Concerns and the Catholic Climate Covenant.

This worksheet responds to LSAP Goal #6, Ecological Spirituality, and investigates the truths of our faith that we’re reminded of in Laudato Si’.  These include the crucial idea from the book of Genesis that “human life is grounded in three fundamental and closely intertwined relationships: with God, with our neighbor and with the earth itself.” (LS, para. 66). The worksheet helps participants learn from the spirituality of St Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of ecology.  Finally, it suggests practices that can help us grow in our faith, looking for God in all things, and considering our current prayer practices through the lens of Creation Care.  This in turn can help us understand how our choices and behaviors impact our relationship with our Creator and with all of Creation.

The worksheets are designed to help people find approachable steps to take in response to the ecological crises of the world, described so movingly by Pope Francis in Laudato Si’.

A SUGGESTED METHODOLOGY:

  1. Print out Worksheet #6.  Read through page 1 only.

  2. Pray a little and contemplate.  Consider what is meant by “Ecological Spirituality.”  Consider reviewing these files from the website: “Accompanying Scripture and Prayer”, and the essay titles, “Spiritual Essence of Laudato Si’”.

  3. Talk with the other members of your household about the goal.

  4. On the website, review the file called “Visuals for Goal #6.”

  5. Go back to the Worksheet, printed in step 1, and begin to fill out pages 2 and 3.

We’re on track to be able to present all 7 worksheets by March 2023, offering households a way to come together and build a Laudato Si’ Action Plan, as invited by Pope Francis.  The worksheets can also be used by groups.
