Update on the Coronavirus within the Maryknoll Family

UPDATE: April 11, 2020

CORONAVIRUS.png

While all four expressions within Maryknoll are struggling to adjust to this pandemic, the Congregation and Society have had to face very trying realities.  At this writing, two Sister have succumbed to the virus and recently over 25 Sisters, who are symptomatic, have been moved to a nursing home in Manhattan for more extensive care.  Likewise, for the Fathers & Brothers. One Society member has died from complications related to the virus and around 20 are or have been symptomatic.  Both Sr. Nonie Gutzler, President and Fr. Ray Finch, Superior General related this reality to those we celebrate in Holy Week.

For the Lay Missioners, Executive Director Ted Miles said that of the 57 Lay Missioners in the field, 11 have returned to the U.S. during the pandemic and 46 have remained in their mission placements. Most other laity mission groups have returned all their members. We are not aware of any Affiliates having been infected with the virus at this time.  Affiliate Board chair, Rich Lessard has sent several communiques to all Affiliates to encourage stronger connection among themselves and is exploring ways that leadership can be more helpful during this time.
