Mac20something & Zooming Around

The MAC2020 Team (Ginny McEvoy, Jim & Ann Coady, Celine Woznica, Agnes Walsh & Bob Short) met to mourn (just a bit) what wasn’t and look forward to what might be.  We quickly reached the conclusion that, while still working our way through this dense fog, we had no clear idea when to schedule the next event; what the theme would be (same as 2020?); or where/how it would take place.  Hence the title of this post – MAC20Something

Jim then put the virtual word on the table for consideration. Vociferous applause did not immediately follow.  After all, a big part of the MAC is the physical gathering – side conversations, socials, Emmaus walks, sharing at the food table and observing each other stumbling to early morning prayer and breakfast half-awake after a long night.  And too, for so many among us who are a touch older than the Smart Phone, technology can be a challenge.

Yet, a virtual gathering (e.g., Zoom or Skype) does have several advantages.  No plane flights to catch, carbon footprint to escalate, visas to arrange, too soft/hard mattresses to endure and very little or nothing to pay for. And too, for so many among us who are no longer the most fit person in the local gym, this could be an inviting option. So, while not deciding which route to take, we did not take the virtual option off the table.  What do you think?

One last thought (Zooming Around)… during this time of physical distancing, several chapters have started to connect virtually.  Some virtually gathered for Holy Week & Easter prayer and some to check in with each other for the camaraderie.  If not ideal, it is a wonderful alternative way to nurture a sense of community. Most used Zoom technology.  The free version allows for up to 100 participants to be on for 40 minutes with unlimited meetings.  Go to: www.zoom.com for more information. Skype is another popular option. Bob Short would also be happy to help with this - affiliatebshort@gmail.com.
