Open Space
Synopsis:
It is a self-organizing practice of inner discipline and collective activity which releases the inherent creativity and leadership in people. By inviting people to take responsibility for what they care about, Open Space establishes a marketplace of inquiry, reflection and learning, bringing out the best in both individuals and the whole.
Workshop Leader: Dr. Mary Elizabeth Ford
Dr. Mary Elizabeth Ford is a clinical psychologist who has spent most of her career working in the inner city with those recovering from abuse, drug addiction, or trauma. Her introduction to that population began as a Maryknoll Sister, when she was missioned to the south Bronx. Mef was present at the founding meeting of the Maryknoll Affiliates in Chicago in 1992 and there offered to create one newsletter (NSFA). At the invitation of Renate Schneider, she traveled to Haiti several times in recent years to teach an Introduction to Psychology course to university students in Jeremie. In the early 90s, she was trained by the founder of Open Space Technology, Harrison Owen, and went on to facilitate various gatherings of Maryknoll Affiliates, Sisters, and Lay Missioners as well as Haitian students. Dr. Ford was present at the founding meeting of the Maryknoll Affiliates in Chicago in 1992 and there offered to create a national newsletter (NSFA), which she continued to edit for ten years.
