Tanzania Affiliate Chapter - Karibu
We in the Affiliate movement are especially blessed, inspired and challenged by our chapters throughout the world – South Korea, Latin America, U.S. and East Africa. Today we hear from the Chapter in Tanzania.
Maryknoll Affiliates from the Mwanza, Tanzania Chapter are happy to present to you a short reflection of what we have lived together especially during the past two years after the onset of COVID-19
Mwanza, a rocky city, second most populated in Tanzania, rests on the shores of Lake Victoria! Our chapter enjoys the presence of Maryknoll family: Maryknoll Fathers, Sisters, Brothers, Lay Missionaries and us as Affiliates. This alone contributes a lot of strength to our group.
There are now 13 members in our Chapter after COVID-19 took two members. It hasn’t been very easy for us. Grace Kishumba, who died last year, left a gap after we realized what a gift she was as a teacher, wife, mother with her quiet but caring attitude to other people around her. It was difficult to hear Grace complaining but easy to hear her offering encouragement especially to the sick and students needing help. This year brought us to another trying moment when Magdalena Joseph Baruti went to the Lord two months ago, the fifth to die in her family from COVID-19. Magdalena was a pillar in our Chapter. She will always be there with jokes and laughter sacrificing her time and possessions.
Now we reflect on how God speaks tous in different ways. We value our connections and see the need to stay close together, we ponder on each individual’s call to serve. We see how Maryknoll spirit sustains us in different ways.
We meet once every month for prayer and sharing. We have recollection days twice or more each year. We have seminars periodically, and we go out together regularly to serve those in most need.
Tanzania Chapter is most grateful for all that you do to keep us connected.
May God Bless You All! - Costansia Mbogomba
