How will Maryknoll carry its mission into the future?  Even before the COVID 19 pandemic, thoughtful observation exposed foundational changes in and understandings about our world, Church, theology, social, political, cultural and scientific realities. Perhaps even more than cognitive analysis, from within our hearts and the intuitive places in our souls, we have begun to sense that something is fundamentally different. We are living in an interim time – a change in eras – as Pope Francis has said. So again, how can we in Maryknoll – all four expressions – move into the future with renewed energy, commitment, and genuine hope? What will the new wine skins look like. 

The Committee of 12, a group of 3 persons each from the Sisters, Priests & Brothers, Lay Missioners, and Affiliates, has been meeting every other week over several months to simply have a conversation together about mission in Maryknoll and many of the contributing factors therein.  It has been a wonderfully enriching communal experience that has allowed all of us to freely share insights and aspirations about the Maryknoll movement’s faithful response to mission in the 21st century – challenges, obstacles, encumbrances and hopes.

We would like to extend an invitation to all in the Maryknoll family to continue the conversation.  It is not seen as preparation for the upcoming Chapter, Assemblies and Joint Meetings among our respective expressions, but an opportunity for all who participate to listen & speak to each other from experience of our mission journeys and from our best understanding of the sacred movement of God’s Spirit within us.  Please join us in this conversation.
