Maryknoll Affiliates Grant Brings Holiday Joy to Seafarers

Ralph and Kate Maughan – Seattle Chapter

Ralph Maughan, Affiliates’ Pacific Northwest Regional Coordinator, requested and received a $500 grant from the Maryknoll Affiliates. His chapter used it to purchase personal items for seafarers that come to Seattle.

Ralph and his wife Kate first ordered supplies to put together ditty bags for 50 seafarers that visit the Seattle Seafarers Center during the holidays.

Then, much laughter and joy took place at the November Seattle Affiliates’ meeting while these items were put into bags.

Kate Maughan counts the prepared bags.

Seafarer staff member Julia Cooper shared that many people and organizations are very generous. They are planning on giving out 1,000 bags to the Seafarers during the winter months. On average, there are 25 Seafarers to a ship, so you can imagine how many ships come through the port!

Many thanks go out to the people who made this grant possible. This is another example of how the Seattle Affiliates continue to embrace the pillars of global vision and action. We are abundantly grateful for the opportunity that the grant provided.
