Dairmuid O'Murchu - October Retreat Presenter

Diarmuid O’Murchu

Dairmuid O’Murchu, a priest of the Sacred Heart Missionary Order, graduate of Trinity College, Dublin Ireland, and a social psychologist, will give the first presentation at the Maryknoll-wide October 6-9 retreat. He is prize-winning author of many books (several published by Orbis) and has often given workshops at the Maryknoll Sisters’ Mission Institute.

Diarmuid’s writings point to a Spirit-driven evolutionary perspective, in which Creation is God's primary form of revelation.  For many, this will be a new way to understand religious history, Church, Scripture and God’s movement in the universe and in our lives. For many, it will be challenging yet, on an intuitive level, very possibly confirming.

If you would like to know more about his thought, check out his books at Orbis and other publishers. If your schedule allows little time for reading books, Maryknoll Sister Helene O’Sullivan MM has provided 2-3 page précises of many authors. Most recently, she has focused on Diarmuid O’Murchu. These précises are available on the Affiliate website. Getting some background on Diarmuid’s writings will help anyone participating in the October retreat (or in living one’s life) to better understand his revolutionary thought.

A last comment… Maryknoll Affiliates Nancy & Bob McFarland of the San Francisco Chapter are good friends of Diarmuid and have hosted him in their home several times. Nancy assures that, as scholarly and substantive an author as he is, Diarmuid is just a simple, gentle and kind man. Now if we ever figure out how to pronounce his name!
