Chapter Spotlight: Northeast Florida

  • Service Involvements

Chapter Affiliates are involved in many different kinds of mission work, including prison teaching, food for the homeless, and right-to-life ministry. They also regularly participate in medical mission trips and mission immersion trips. In 2016, the Chapter helped two local parishes prepare for a short-term mission trip led by Affiliate Brian Schoonover (back row center).
  • Preparing for Meet Maryknoll Day

The Northeast Florida Chapter was begun by Fr. Bob Carleton in 2009 as he was about to move from his Jacksonville, Florida mission assignment. The Chapter was blessed to have former Lay Missioner, Marie Parmly (deceased), in it from the outset. The Chapter was formally recognized by Maryknoll in 2011. Jim Madden, MM (deceased) and Dora Nuetzi, MM are also in the photo.
  • Connecting with Maryknoll's Wider Mission

In the Southeast U.S., Chapter Affiliates have promoted Maryknoll and mission work at various venues, including Eucharistic Congresses and Vocation Conferences. The Chapter also welcomes every opportunity to host speakers on various important topics. Mission Educator Matt Rousso (above far left) presented in Jacksonville on “Laudato Si”

Where we are

The Maryknoll Affiliate Chapter, sometimes referred to as a small mission community, is the organizing center of the Affiliate movement and is the primary support for individual Maryknoll Affiliates. There are over 50 Affiliate Chapters throughout the world varying in number from just 5 members to well over 40. On average, a Chapter meets 10 times a year. Each meeting includes reflection, discussion of a mission related theme (often following a presentation or video) and sharing a meal together. Many Chapters also commit themselves to a particular local or global action – such as working with the homeless, supporting Maryknoll’s education programs, peace and justice involvements, immersion trips overseas. While all Chapters are guided by the Affiliate Pillars of community, spirituality, global vision and action, each has its own identity and character.

The map on this page provides a glimpse of the geographic locations and the Chapter Spotlight highlights a particular Chapter for a given time period.
