The Maryknoll Affiliates are connected to a wider movement that is popularly called “Maryknoll”*. Maryknoll is comprised of three distinct entities: the Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers (officially known as the Catholic Foreign Mission Society of America), the Maryknoll Sisters of St. Dominic and the Maryknoll Lay Missioners.
Maryknoll Affiliates, then, are people who identify with the Maryknoll family and their vision, spirit and charism, while remaining active in their work at home and in their own communities. Early on, the Maryknoll Affiliates defined the four pillars of Spirituality, Community, Global Vision and Action as the elements that brought them together. You can read more about the four pillars in the Maryknoll Affiliate brochure.
*Maryknoll is a group of three distinct Roman Catholic organization founded in the United States: The Maryknoll Sisters of St. Dominic, Inc., The Catholic Foreign Mission Society of America, Inc., and The Maryknoll Mission Association of the Faithful, Inc. Their express purpose is mission: an ever-expanding outreach in faith, particularly beyond geographical borders, to share the good news revealed in Jesus Christ.
