Consensus Statements and Action Items

Meeting #57 April 15-17, 2016

The Affiliate Board and Regional Coordinators met at Maryknoll, April 14-17th. A number of action items were approved, including the endorsement and support of the Guatemala chapter in hosting the MAC2017 and the establishment of pilot Virtual Affiliate Communities/Chapters. These and other initiatives are contained in the Consensus Action Statements that follow. Watch for the latest on these developments in the upcoming issues of Not So Far Afield.

# 1.  We enthusiastically support and affirm the Guatemalan proposal for the MAC 2017.

# 2.  We affirm John Moritz’s formation work.  The Board calls for action to assist John in revising the formation program.  The formation program is to be known as a formation/renewal program.  Ken Epps and Ginny McEvoy will assist John Moritz in this effort

# 3.  The Board requests its members to visit (in person, via conference call, Skype, etc.) at least one Affiliate Chapter besides their own per year and report on the visit via Not So Far Afield.

#4.  Bob Short will create an Affiliate Chapter contact person database to include location, chapter contact person, the contact person’s street address, phone, and email address.  This database will be made available to the Society (Russ Feldmeier), Congregation (Norie Mojado/Teruko Ito), and Lay Missioners (Margo Cambier).

#5.  Ginny McEvoy will work with Bob Short to create an Excel database of Affiliates, combining the existing databases.  Bob will maintain the database.

#6.  Bill Murphy and team (to be identified) will develop and pilot a one-day reflection program for people returning from immersion trips.

#7.  The Board affirms the concept and approves the establishment of pilot virtual communities:

A.     Contemplative community: John Moritz

B.     Chapter communities:  Mary Massaro will explore forming a community with three women who are interested but live distant  from any chapter or each other.  Beth Begley will explore a virtual community of existing Affiliates who do not have local chapters.

#8.  The Board wholeheartedly recognizes the Emaus group in Santa Cruz, Bolivia, as a new chapter and welcomes them.

#9.  The Board welcomes and supports the continued presence of representatives of all three Maryknoll entities on the Board.

#10.  The Board approves Rich Lessard for a second term on the Board.

#11.  The Board will search/advertise for new Board members and reopen the search for the finance person.

#12.  The Board approves the revised Organization Document.  The document will be distributed to the Board for final review before being distributed to the Regional Coordinators and Chapter contact people.  A copy of the final document will be made available to the Joint Members of Leadership (JML) upon request.

#13.  For reasons of continuity, the Board extends Dave Schaffner’s term so he may continue as Chair of the Board through November 2017.

#14.  Bob Short and Mary Massaro will revise the Affiliate Board Handbook.

#15.  The Board named committee members for 2016:
