Midwest Affiliate Retreat

August 14-16 – Green Lake Conference Ctr.,  WI

Renewing the Joy of Mission—Shifting Into the Future

See: www.glcc.org

Four chapters are collaborating on this summer event, with 36 participants from eight of our eleven Midwest Affiliate Chapters already registered. We also welcome anyone interested in learning about the Affiliates.

We will reflect and dialog on our four pillars, priorities, key values, changes, challenges, hopes and concerns. Emmaus walks and sharing of our local and global activities will help us find renewed hope and joy in living our dreams. We plan to get to know our Maryknoll Affiliates in the Midwest and take time to reflect on where we ourselves, and we together, will go from here.

Spend this mid-August weekend at a lakeside retreat enjoying sumptuous healthy food choices, elegant historic and natural surroundings, and gracious hospitality. Midwest Maryknoll Affiliates are planning a retreat at Green Lake Conference Center, Wisconsin. It is scheduled for August 14-16, 2015. So far, 32 Affiliates from ten Midwest chapters are planning to come.

This will be an awesome setting to gather, share our stories, reconnect with each other, and deepen our love of the Creator and God’s mission.

Members of other chapters are also welcome and can register by May, 2015. Check out the website of Green Lake: http://www.glcc.org.

Fab(ulous) trip to Kenya

Kathie Gribble - Board Member, Fox Cities Chapter

These are just a few of the highlights of my Friends Across Borders (FAB) journey to Kenya with the Maryknoll Lay Missioners in September 2013. I think I have always wanted to visit Africa because I feel African music and dance express all the best emotions of life with the whole body. This trip immersed us in the lives of the people of Kenya in Eastern Africa and the ministries of the Maryknoll Lay Missioners.

A Chapter Meeting to Remember

Kathie Gribble – Fox Cities Chapter, Affiliate Board Member

“Good meeting” was the feeling all around.

Our Fox Cities-Wisconsin Chapter is active in various local and global activities, but we meet as Maryknollers only three times a year. This February we had an exceptional meeting. Only four of our six members were present, but the simple Easy Meeting format carried us through all the information we needed to share and enter into a deeper experience.

We honored the memory of our dear co-founder, Fr. Jim Madden, MM, following the Irish Funeral Prayer format. After “Touchdown”—sharing in a few sentences our most current concern, interest, or joy, we highlighted recent Maryknoll developments:

Two members of our Fox Cities Maryknoll Affiliates attended “Advocacy Day at the Capitol”, March 15th, 2011, in Madison, Wisconsin. This annual event gathers people of various churches, synogogues and mosques to advocate with their state senators and representatives about issues that affect the common good of communities, and especially of those who find themselves in poverty. The timing couldn’t have been better, as it was on a Tuesday after the Saturday that our 14 Democratic senators had returned to Madison and appeared at the last huge rally to oppose the Budget Repair Bill of governor Walker.
